What Did Sandy Say? Twin Lakes Community Forum
As a candidate, I have thoroughly enjoyed hearing from so many of you across our district with relevant questions, thoughtful conversation and powerful feedback about all things ABSS! I have realized many of the questions/questionnaires – and my responses – provide great insight for our citizens as they decide which candidates can most effectively lead our school district. I trust the information is helpful and welcome the opportunity for more conversation about our schools!

How will you approach your goverance role to work with the leadership at the school district? I would approach it with collaboration and team work. I think it is important to take the advice of the district leadership but I also think it is important to take those recommendations and those proposals before the people to get their feedback and ask them. Our educators, our parents, and our students are the ones in the trenches living it everyday. I think oversight, partnership and collaboration are a team effort and we all have to come together for what’s best for all of our students. This means working together, making tough decisions, and having critical conversations. Most importantly, listening to the people and finding out what works best for the people.
What are some of the obstacles in ABSS right now that impact equity? Funding has a huge impact on equity. Getting equal access to the tools and resources is one thing. From an equity standpoint, some of our schools and our students need more than others. Teacher recruitment and retention is important to represent the diversity in our student population. The majority of our educators are white and the minority races combined outweigh the white students in population. Our teacher profiles don’t reflect that. It also comes from the leadership at the schools too. The leadership must ensure their school is getting from the district what is needed to support their educators and students.
